Old Spitalfields Market
About Old Spitalfields Market
A covered Victorian market hall near Liverpool Street with independent fashion, crafts, vintage and antiques stalls alongside a street food hall, open seven days a week.
History
Spitalfields has been home to a market since the 17th century, when King Charles II granted a royal charter in 1682 for a market on the site. For most of its history it was a major wholesale fruit and vegetable market.
The current market buildings date largely from the late Victorian period. The wholesale market moved to Leyton in 1991, and the historic hall was reborn as a retail market showcasing independent traders, makers and food.
