Greenwich Market
About Greenwich Market
A historic covered market in the heart of maritime Greenwich, selling arts, crafts, antiques and global street food, a short walk from the Cutty Sark and Greenwich Park.
History
Greenwich Market's charter was granted in 1700, with the market's profits going to support Greenwich Hospital for retired seamen. It originally traded as a general market for meat, fish and produce.
The market moved to its current site in the 1830s, and its covered hall now sits within the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today it is known for its arts, crafts and food traders.
What to Expect
Expect a compact, friendly market full of handmade gifts, prints, jewellery and vintage finds, plus plenty of hot food for lunch. It makes an easy stop on a day out in Greenwich, alongside the Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory and the riverside. Weekends are busiest.
